Local GovernmentIn the New York Colony their local government consist of an elected assembly and a governor that was appointed by the king of England. There was very little self government, and hardly any freedom but when freedom was claimed it didn't last very long. In 1777 they adopted their first state constitution, and it was rewritten several times. The capital was also moved several times before making Albany the permanent capital.

They had considerable religious freedom, because they were between the Puritan colonies of New England and the catholic colony of Maryland they were said to be mostly protestant but there were many faith throughout the colony.

Clothing
In the New York Colony girls wore shifts (like long night gowns), on top of the shift they wore bodice apron over layers of skirts. They would wear caps or cross cloths, and they would only wear shoes when needed. The boys would wear loose shirts under a doublets (lace or button up). The occasionally wore greatcoats, with breeches or pants that end just below the kneecap. They also wore wide brimmed hats and long stockings with shoes.
Food
In the New York Colony beans, squash, peas, okra, pumpkins, peppers, tomatoes ,and peanuts were the main food supply. They also grew Maize (corn) because it could be eaten by both humans and cattle. Later rice and potatoes were grown in place of wheat and barley.
Entertainment
In the New York colony they would entertain themselves by holding contests, playing the fiddle( a violin) and dancing. They also worked together spinning and quilting.
Housing
The housing in the New York Colony was under Dutch influence. They were built with multicolored bricks, a wide stoop and door step. There doors were split in half so the top could be open when the bottom was still closed.
Life in the Colony
Life in the New York Colony was prosperous, they had very good businesses and lots of ways to entertain themselves. On the other hand they were more on the violent side, they fought many battles within themselves and with surrounding neighbors.
Founder & location
In 1664 Peter Stuyvesant the Dutch leader, surrendered to the English and the colony was renamed to New York. The New York colony was a middle colony along with New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

In the New York Colony some jobs where printers, clock makers, barbers, tanners (a person whose occupation is to tan hides), milliners, dyers, menders, and shipping business.
